ITMFA

I see that L-girl posted a link to ITMFA. If you haven't already seen this, it is definitely worth checking out. I was in New Orleans when a friend sent me the link. Being there made it even more unbelieveable that Bush, except for those falling "approval ratings," seems untouchable. And how 'bout Rummy? Retired generals, for goodness sake, calling for his resignation and Bush's resolve to stand by his man is ever strong. What is wrong with this picture?

If I believed that the Democrats might get their act together by '08 perhaps I'd feel a bit more hopeful about the future of this place. But, sadly, I am very skeptical. I really think the answer is to destroy the two-party system. I'm no political scientist, but it seems that the lack of viability of even the strongest third party candidate leaves us in a bit of a lurch...

But, back to ITMFA. I was in graduate school with a guy we called Teflon (insert name) because, no matter his indiscretions, all things negative seemed to just slide off his backside - or whatever. I've not heard it yet and it's definitely not catchy, but Teflon Bush seems appropriate.

Addendum - I just Googled "teflon bush" and it did come up. Ironically, it came up on CMAQ, a Canadian site! Why am I not surprised?

Well, we're somewhere under 1000 days until the 2008 election. The big question - besides the obvious, who will win? - is... where will we be living then? Stay tuned!

Glad two women are also moving to Canada. My partner of 22 years and I are in the process also. Looks like we're about 5 months behind you. We have decided on Vancouver and have purchased a strata (condo) in the West End. We did check out Nova Scotia a couple of years ago and loved it. A bit too cold in the winter for us Florida boys, however. Look forward to following your saga.

Bcdc, don't worry too much about Harper. It's a minority government, and it's unloved. The Liberals, who are the centre in Canada, will be back before too long, once they resolve their own internal problems.

I wouldn't presume to tell you if Canada is right for you or not, but Canada is not becoming the US. It may move slightly to the right, but it would still be liberal - no, ultra liberal - by current US standards.

Reagan was the Teflon President but it seems to fit even better here.

So good to hear from you all!

bcdc: I echo what L-girl posted about Harper and Canada, in general. We've had the same thoughts, but it's not just Bush - that wouldn't be worth it. It's a much larger picture. If I may ask, where in MN are you? I've met a woman in Roseville who, with her husband, has purchased a home in Nanaimo, BC for when they move. I e-mailed briefly with a couple of other folks from these parts. Nice to "meet" you! Where are you with CIC? Have you had your medicals done yet? I ask bc I'm curious where you went. Apple Valley?

west end bound: Greetings! We stayed in the West End last summer when we spent a week in Vancouver. Loved it! How wonderful that you've been able to get a condo! Unfortunately with a small child (and the expenses that entails!) we won't be buying anything until we actually go. We were planning on BC, but have now set our sights on NS for a variety of reasons. We'll see! Where in FL are you? I graduated from HS in Fort Lauderdale.

Again, it's great to hear from you all!

Cheerio!

We are located in Freeport, FL which is between Destin and Panama City - the heart of "bushville" - both "w" and "jeb" - ughh!! Got to get out of here. Moved here in '01 after selling a business in Atlanta where we had lived for many years. Beautiful area, home on the water, just too many materialistic repuglicans and right-wing evangelicals for our tastes . . .

We love Nova Scotia also - were very interested in Halifax, of course, and also Wolfville on the north side (college town) and Chester (artist's enclave) on the coast down from Peggy's Cove quite some distance. Rented a house overlooking the Peggy's Cove area for a week with a friend from here in Florida in '03. Had to stay an extra few days as Hurricane Juan came ashore in Halifax!! Wouldn't you know us Floridians lured the storm up there!! At least we knew how to prepare for the situation - unlike the natives . . . .

I've just started a blog - 1st time for me, and don't know how regimented I will be about keeping it up at:

http://tovancouver.blogspot.com/

Correspond with you soon . . . .

bcdc: That's terrific and wild! I had looked at the same co-housing group! But, with our being academics, we've got to go where one of us can get a job.

If you wouldn't mind zipping me a note via e-mail I'd love to ask you a couple of quex about the meds. BTW, since you appear to be at "that point," did you have to get state certificates from every state you've lived in since you were 18?

Thanks much!
