Car Importation Question
A new permanent resident who has visited our blogs, but doesn't blog herself, has landed with her partner! Woo-hoo! They will be making the "real" move as soon as they sell their house in Massachusetts. Here's the question - they have a relatively new car that is financed. Thus, the bank holds the title. All the information regarding US/CA export/import, including conversation with the border folks, suggests that you must hold title to export/import the vehicle. Surely someone out there has come to Canada with a vehicle that you didn't yet own free and clear. Advice for these newcomers? Thanks!

Sorry, can't help on this one. With living in downtown Vancouver, we were able to sell our car in the US and be carless in BC - Love it ! ! ! !
The guys over at "canadian boodiada" have a post up on this topic right now:

It may not cover your question specifically, but the links might...
Diane did not own her truck outright when we landed. Have them contact us and she can tell them how to proceed.
Wow. I just posted on this subject yesterday! My post focuses on temporary vehicle import, but my partner Eric and I also had a financed auto and successfully imported it. I believe the info in my post will be helpful. If there are any specific questions not answered there I am happy to try. Have them contact me, the email link is in the "who we are" section.
