Lesbian Moms Attacked

This is so sad - and frightening...

This aspect doesn't appear in the above article, but I feel compelled to add it here. The perpetrator has alleged that one of the women used a racial epithet toward him. She denies it. I have no idea. I wasn't there. I will say that, even if it is true, it doesn't justify the assaults. But, it does complicate things. Ugh. The whole thing is so ugly and unfortunate.

I also have to add that, thus far, I have had nothing but overwhelmingly positive experiences at 7YO's school. I wait for him, outside the school doors, each afternoon. There is always the same group of us. One father from England, another who just moved back after living in the US for about a dozen years, a young mother who has probably never been outside the province, a stay-at-home mom closer to my age whose husband is an academic... We chit-chat - often about the weather, of course. Although they've only met me, they know that 7YO has two moms. It came up in talking about why we moved here. At least one of these parents attended the school, as did 7YO's teacher. The school has about 100 kids. It's a very close-knit and comfortable community. Hard to imagine something like this incident. That's not to say there aren't folks who will choose to keep their distance, but so far things have been great. This incident a good reminder that you just never know what absolute nutcase is going to appear. So sad.

Canada Calling said...

This was very upsetting when I read it in the newspapers. There are crazy people in every country. Who knows the whole story, but you are correct, beating up women is an unacceptable reaction to any name type of calling, if that did indeed happen. I’m so glad and relieved that you have had only positive reactions.
