WTF?

20,000 more troops to Iraq?

I asked my students to watch tonight so I was taking notes.
Just a sampling...

“The situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people…and it is unacceptable to me.”
“Failure in Iraq would be disastrous for the United States.”
“…advancing liberty across a troubled region.”
“Increase the active Army and Marine Corps…”
‘Mobilize civilians overseas…”
“Advance of freedom is the calling of our time...”

Every time I hear him utter words like liberty, freedom, and democracy I wonder when everyone in the United States will truly have liberty and freedom.

I absolutely loathe the man.

My take on the speech:

He's laying the foundation for invading Iran . . .

He made at least 4 references to Iran and one or two to Syria.

It's the next field of attack and potential profit center for Haliburton, Raytheon, etc. . . .

Frightening. I don't really think that much of anyone in the U.S. is willing to put up with a draft, but I don't see how we can send troops anywhere else and not resort to that.

I have to admit I couldn't stomach listening to him. Just the sound of his voice brings me to the edge.

Of course, what W. doesn't talk about is how this whole venture has left the U.S. more vulnerable. First, because he's created justifications and training opportunities for new terrorists. Second, because U.S. troops are so tied up in Iraq, the U.S. can't really respond to anything else effectively. (Without, as you said, resorting to the draft, but I don't think the Rs would allow that as they know it would mean the public would really turn on them.)

I am watching this all unfold and I can't believe how bold and ignorant Bush is being.

This is more about his political legacy than anything else.

Only 30% of the country supports his insane troop surge. I will be shocked if he gets away with it.

Also, what this Iran and Syria covert war talk going on? Bush is going to destroy America.
